On 28th September, 22 Year 11 & 12 boys with 3 Marist College Staff – Mr Kreso Gavran,
Mrs Suzette Thompson and Mr John Folan, flew out of Sydney for a 15 day tour of the
United Kingdom stopping for two nights in Paris on the way.
They spent their days in Paris doing some sightseeing including going to the top of the
Eiffel Tower, visiting Notre Dame Cathedral, Napoleon’s Tomb, Sacre Coeur and the
Louvre. From here they caught the Eurostar to England and stayed 2 nights in Sussex
where they played their first game against Tonbridge School and visited Bodiam Castle at
The group then made their way by chartered coach to Bath via Brighton and
Southampton. They visited the Royal Pavilion, the Brighton Pier, the Titanic exhibition at
the Seascape Museum, the Roman Baths, swam in the pools at the Thermae Bath, walked
around Stonehenge and Salisbury Cathedral. The teams then played their second game
which was against Bridgwater College, near Bath.
The next two days were for most of the boys, the highlight of the tour. On the Saturday
the group travelled to West Ham’s home ground at Upton Park where they had corporate
seating for West Ham’s game against Arsenal. On the Sunday they travelled to St. James
Park, Newcastle to see Newcastle V Manchester United.
Oxford was the next destination where they played St. Clare’s School, visited Christ
Church College and walked around taking in the atmosphere of Oxford.
The last 4 nights were spent in London at Thameside Youth Hostel where the boys got to
mix with peers from many different countries. The group visited The London Eye, Tower
of London, London Bridge, St Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster and Big Ben and had the
chance to do some shopping.
The boys also enjoyed the opportunity to tour Emirates Stadium - Arsenal’s home ground.
The boys also got the chance to see West End Musical – “We Will Rock You”. The group’s
final game was played against Brentwood School, Essex.

in the Championship (Winter) Season for 2012.

Grand Final, the team won the game with the winning basket in the last 2
seconds of the game! Congratulations to the Champions of the U19B Grade

The Club looks forward to watching the skills develop as the teams continue
their journey with Marist during the Challenge (Summer) Season 2012-13.
And what a busy season the Challenge (summer) Season has turned out to be
for the Basketball Club. The weekend of the 19th October saw 28 teams take
to the courts to represent Marist College in the Basketball ACT local
competition. That was a 30% increase in player numbers from usual, we
believe it was attributed to the magnificent new facility the boys have watched
grow from the ground up, sparking a renewed interest in the game.
The Clubs resources have been stretched to the maximum, but with the
determination of the Registrar - Stephanie Drew, Treasurer - Michelle Fulton &
Equipment Manager - Kellie Alexander with the assistance of others, this
mighty effort by our volunteers was outstanding & brought this season to
